Description
This slow cooker sweet garlic chicken recipe is an easy, dump-and-go meal. Tender chicken slow cooks in a homemade sweet garlic sauce made with lemon-lime soda, soy sauce, fresh garlic, and brown sugar. It’s a kid-friendly dish perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda (7-up or Sprite)
- 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- Cooked white rice, sliced green onions, sesame seeds for serving
Instructions
- Lay the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, rice vinegar, lemon-lime soda, soy sauce, garlic, and black pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.
- Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth.
- Pour the cornstarch mixture into the slow cooker. Cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Serve the sweet garlic chicken over cooked white rice, drizzle with extra sauce, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes

- For a quicker shred, you can use a handheld blender directly in the slow cooker, but be careful not to over-process.
- Regular sugar lemon-lime soda is preferred for taste, but diet or zero sugar versions can be used.
