Description
A delightful homemade apple pie jam that captures the essence of fall in a jar, perfect for spreading on toast or using in desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups peeled, cored, and finely chopped apples (about 6–7 medium apples; Granny Smith + Honeycrisp work great)
- 1 cup apple cider or apple juice
- 4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 packet powdered fruit pectin (or 3 Tbsp liquid pectin)
- 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Sterilize 5–6 half-pint jars and lids by boiling for 10 minutes or running through dishwasher on hot cycle.
- In a large pot, combine chopped apples and apple cider. Simmer over medium heat until apples soften, about 10–12 minutes.
- Use potato masher for chunky texture or immersion blender for smoother consistency.
- Stir in sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. Bring mixture to a rolling boil, stirring frequently.
- Sprinkle in pectin and boil hard for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until jam thickens properly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Ladle hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Wipe rims clean and apply lids.
- Process jars in boiling water bath for 10 minutes for shelf-stable storage.
- Remove jars and let cool undisturbed for 24 hours until properly sealed.
Notes
- Ensure apples are finely chopped for even cooking.
- Adjust spices according to personal preference.
- Store sealed jars in a cool, dark place for best shelf life.
