Description

A delightful recipe for homemade honey buns that are soft, sweet, and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs. Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread softened butter over dough, sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar, and drizzle with honey.
  6. Roll dough tightly from the long side and cut into 1-inch slices.
  7. Place buns in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar with milk to make glaze. Drizzle over warm buns and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • For a richer flavor, let the buns cool slightly before glazing.
  • These buns can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
