Ingredients
- 2 large yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon sherry
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 1 cup Gruyere cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 12 mini fillo shells
- 1/2 cup remaining Gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook until caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Stir in beef broth and sherry. Cook for a few more minutes until liquid evaporates.
- In a bowl, blend cream cheese with half of the Gruyere cheese, bread crumbs, and parsley.
- Preheat oven according to mini fillo shell package instructions.
- Spoon onion mixture into each fillo shell.
- Top with cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with remaining Gruyere cheese.
- Bake according to fillo shell package instructions, about 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden.
Notes
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving if desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
