Description

Create whimsical, bubbling cauldron cookies for Halloween using a simple cake mix and vibrant green buttercream. These easy-to-make treats are perfect for kids and festive parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Canola or Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Black Food Coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 tsp Salt (optional)
  • 24 tbsp Milk
  • 35 drops Green Food Coloring
  • 1 cup Sprinkles
  • 1 cup Candy Eyeballs
  • 12 sticks Pretzel Sticks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease three 12-count mini muffin pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, canola oil, and optional black food coloring. Stir until smooth.
  3. Scoop 1/2 tablespoon of dough into each muffin cup. Flatten tops gently.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set. Press an indentation in the center of each cookie while warm.
  5. Cool cookies in pans for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add milk until smooth and spreadable.
  7. Mix in green food coloring to desired shade.
  8. Pipe frosting into cooled cookie cups.
  9. Garnish with sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and insert pretzel sticks.

Notes

  • Optional: Sprinkle with edible glitter for a magical finish.
  • For a dairy-free option, use margarine instead of butter and a dairy-free milk alternative.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days.
  • Undecorated cookie cups can be frozen for up to three months.
