Description

Ingredients

  • 4 small round bread bowls (sourdough or any sturdy bread)
  • 1/2 lb deli meat (turkey, roast beef, or ham)
  • 4 slices cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or provolone)
  • 1 cup lettuce (shredded)
  • 1/2 tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice off the top of each bread bowl and scoop out the insides to create a hollow space. Set aside the bread you removed for future use.
  3. If you prefer, you can lightly toast the bread bowls in the oven for about 5-7 minutes for a crispier texture.
  4. Spread mayonnaise or mustard inside the bread bowls, depending on your preference.
  5. Layer the deli meat and cheese inside the bread bowl.
  6. Add slices of tomato, onion, and a generous amount of lettuce to each sandwich.
  7. Season with salt and pepper, and drizzle with a bit of olive oil if desired.
  8. Place the tops of the bread bowls back on, or serve them open-faced if you prefer.
  9. Serve immediately while the bread is still warm.
