Description
Bangers and Mash is a classic British comfort dish consisting of sausages served with creamy mashed potatoes and onion gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 pork sausages (preferably British-style bangers)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup heavy cream (or milk)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausages and cook until browned and fully cooked, turning occasionally, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from pan and keep warm.
- In the same skillet, add onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over onions and stir well to coat. Slowly add beef broth while stirring, then add Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Meanwhile, boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain well.
- Mash the potatoes with butter and cream until smooth and creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Plate mashed potatoes topped with sausages and drizzle with onion gravy.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of butter and cream in the mashed potatoes.
- Feel free to use different types of sausages based on your preference.
- This dish pairs well with peas or other vegetables on the side.
